After 45 days exactly, i am back in senegal. Still healing in the med hut in Dakar, I am anxious to get back to work. What I realized in the States is that we volunteers in Senegal surely romanticize the U.S. The food, the entertainment, cleanliness. I realized that the only things truly to be missed are friends and family, and not that much changes while we are gone. Biggest changes I noticed on my return:
1. they made pretzel m&ms.
2. Eminem, the rapper is back, as a brunette.
3. the word “jeggings” is used in every-day fashion speech (something that is certainly acceptable to avoid by being in senegal as well)
So, really nothing to be too concerned about while frolicking around in West Africa, unless Eminem decides to add Dakar to his world tour.

Hi Leah,
I’m glad to see you “back in the saddle”- as we say here in Texas! Though we hope you might take it easy on the bicycles for a while!
Take care, and thanks for the blog. Its been fun to hear about your adventures. Reminds my of my own youth….UB

Hi Leah,
Enjoying tales of return of the non-native.
Some time when you get internet access, take a look at this article in the NY Times. Interesting take on what actually works to improve health care.

Sustainable improvement!
