so. update on the new name, bamoussa damba. So I thought that this name meant one of the following: big woman, goat woman, ocean woman etc. but it turns out it’s a BOY’S name.
So Aziz, our teacher, was telling us that sometimes people have names like “ugly” or “Wednesday” because if a woman has trouble having children, or has a lot of miscarriages, they will start naming their children ugly/weird names so the evil spirits will not want to come get them. Similar story with naming girls boys names. If a woman has a lot of girls and wants to have a boy, she will name a girl a boy’s name so the next baby will be a boy. Its possible that this happened with my new grandma, after whom I was named Bamoussa. So now some people are making fun of my “keetoo” (boy’s name). But I like it. Especially when my new counterparts say “baaaaaamousaaaaaaaaaa” in passing.

Hi Leah,
I like “Sea” woman for your name, because its close to yours. Don’t know if anyone told you this, but Moriarty is O’Murtoch (or something like that) in Gaelic. It means “Rulers of the Sea”- at least that’s what I read in a book!
Laura is off to Belize for her adventure. You guys have sure grown up! Stay safe- we’ll be thinking of you. Thanks for keeping everyone posted on your blog…
